University of Florida B-Corp Certification Partnership Has Concluded

This past Tuesday marked the end of a very busy semester at the University of Florida's Impact & Sustainability Initiative. Pressure Games worked with a team of graduate students over the last six weeks to identify opportunities to improve our B corp certification score. This was an incredible opportunity for us to share our business operations and gain insight in how to optimize our performance that is not only beneficial for us but also for the community and the environment.
What are the steps a company has to take to become B corp certified?
First, an aspiring B corp company answers a series of questions on the B Impact Assessment Tool(BIA). The BIA is a free, online platform that evaluates how a company interacts with their workers, customers, community, and environment. The BIA assesses the impact of both a company’s day-to-day operations and a business model. How a company responds to the B Impact Assessment will determine the total numeric score. B Corp Certification requires a minimum verified total score of 80 across all impact areas.
When Pressure Games first submitted the BIA before working with UF we had a baseline score of 41 points. As of the end of the semester Pressure Games now has a baseline score or 72 points- well on our way to achieving B corp certification status! Areas we have room to improve are manufacturing, which is slated to begin in the next couple of weeks, and employees, as of right now our small startup is all founding members with no additional employees but as we grow over the next year we will be adding on team members.
It was a great experience to work besides 12 other aspiring B corp companies in Florida and give hands-on experience to students on how to apply “B” guidelines to real world companies in various industries. For Pressure Games this was an extremely helpful partnership for us to gain insights in how to improve our B corp performance as we move into the next phases of our business - manufacturing and company growth!
